INFO: depending on the wattage of your soldering iron depends on how long you will have to hold the tip on the conection before the solder melts, for exsample a 10 to 20 watt soldering iron will take longer than say a 25 to 40 watt soldering iron. it doesent really matter weather you use lead or lead free solder but bear in mind that lead free has a higher tin content than leaded solder and contains more flux so its harder to melt also leaded solder is soter but lead free solder is more brittle than lede solder. WARNIGS: make shure you unplug the turntable before unscrewing or opening. be careful not to breake any of the thin wires from the tone arm as they are a very delicate. Never turn the turntable upside down without any type of cushion under underneath it you could damage the tone arm, and be careful if youre using the turntable dust cover to support the turntable whilst its upside down the plastic they are made from is very brittle.

When I was growing up my Dad had a pretty good stereo going for him. You know back in those days we didn't have iPod's, mp3 or even Walkmans; we had big amp's, big turntables, big woofers with their tiny tweeters tweaking the high ends for them. You don't see much of that these days. My Dad had all that, but he had Peter Paul & Mary, Kingston Trio, Everly Brothers and Chet Atkins records that he played on them. Sometime around early '76 my uncle Bud, his brother, came by and brought some new tunes. Heart's "Dreamboat Annie" (the "Magic Man" synth solo will always go down as one of the best wall shakers), Boston's first album (nothing compared at the time) - and a few others, including Cheech & Chong's "Wedding Album" which was current at the time... One late night long after I was supposed to be in bed they had this album cranked up; cranked up LOUD (like to 11). I'll never forget hiding in the hallway listening to this, this track and the ensuing dialogue... When that 'kid' says "oh wow that didn't even hurt" and his dad says "oh yeah?" - haha, well I have to say what followed, shaking the walls, left an impact on me. Dis wadn't no Kingston Trio, and dem big speakers really rattled the floors if you cranked them up - and I was 10 and hearing that kid get whalloped was just a riot.... the whole album is a classic piece of work. I was a big fan. This is my favorite C&C album to this day. This here is that very same record that was played on his Dual 1009 turntable some 35+ ...

This is a video showing you one way to eliminate a dodgy crackle or buzzing from the cartage on a turntable. This should solve a problem that a lot of people seem to be having, including me. this look quite brutal but Im only using slight pressure when polishing the contacts, also I recommend firmly holding the tone arm in place while you do this and never apply to much pressure, you could damage the tone-arm. I didnt do this in the video because my arm would have blocked the view of the camera. Information. The type of polish to use is just general purpose metal polish, but not spry polishes (because most are silicone based and leave behind a horrible sticky residue). In the video I mentioned not to use spray polishes like brasso, I didnt mean dont use brasso just dont use brasso spry polish. When polishing the contacts its a good idea to hold the tone-arm still with your other hand so you dont damage it (I didnt do this in the video just so it didnt obstruct the view but you should) If you do not have any rubbing alcohol you can use CD cleaner because its about 70% alcohol. Warnings. When using alcohol to clean the contacts dont literally use alcohol that you drink like vodka or whisky, yes it is alcohol but its got sugar, syrup and other stuff in it thats not going to be very good for the contacts or your cartage. Once you have cleaned the contacts with alcohol and need to polish make sure all of the alcohol has evaporated before using the polish, the alcohol reacts ...
